Ferrari F40 1990
One had to be a dedicated collector rather than a driving enthusiast to own a Ferrari F40 for 35 years and put only 932 kilometers on the odometer. Yet that is exactly what the first owner of this red masterpiece did, preserving one of the world’s most iconic supercars in virtually untouched condition.
The investment proved exceptionally rewarding. The car recently achieved a record sale price of $3.305 million.
The Ferrari F40 was unveiled at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show, drawing its inspiration from the 288 GTO Evoluzione, Ferrari’s endurance-racing prototype of the 1980s. The number 40 commemorated the Italian manufacturer’s 40th anniversary.
Power came from a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 478 horsepower and propelling the F40 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds—performance figures that remain impressive even by today’s standards.
