Rolex Ref 4113. The Epitome of Classic Watchmaking
This exceptionally rare model was produced by Rolex exclusively in 1942. Its enlarged 44mm case protects the movement from magnetic fields—an invaluable feature for the cockpit environment of that era. Interestingly, the movement wasn’t produced by Rolex but by Valjoux, a company that remains one of the world’s leading suppliers of mechanical calibers. While Rolex has since transitioned to producing its movements entirely in-house, at that time, the Valjoux caliber was modified and enhanced by Rolex.
The dial features Arabic numerals in rose gold and extensive use of nickel—a material that was scarce during the challenging wartime period.
This watch shattered the record for vintage watch prices, fetching an astonishing $1.2 million at auction!
