Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked, you can see the bones
The heart of every watch is the escapement, the component that ticks and precisely releases the stored energy from the mainspring. This escapement must be resilient against gravity, hand movements, shocks, and temperature fluctuations. Each of these factors can affect the accuracy and overall functioning of the watch. Audemars Piguet addresses these vulnerabilities with a dual system that features two balance wheels sharing a single central axis. Despite the mechanical complexity this entails, Audemars Piguet claims that the stability of the caliber’s operation has been significantly enhanced. This marks the first time that two balance wheels have been integrated in this manner within a single caliber. To better showcase the inner workings, this is a skeletonized caliber, visible through two transparent sapphire crystals. The case and bracelet are crafted from 18-carat pink gold, and the watch is water-resistant to a depth of 50 meters. The price is approximately $80,000 for the gold version and $44,000 for the steel.
