The Hour of the Gong – Breguet Classique Répétition Minutes 7637
In 1783, a pivotal moment reshaped the world of watchmaking. Abraham-Louis Breguet—the founder of what is now regarded as one of the most eminent luxury watch manufactures—introduced his pioneering repeater timepiece. Repeater watches are designed to indicate the hours and minutes through sound, activated by pressing a dedicated mechanism.
Breguet’s breakthrough lay in a refined approach to sound production. While contemporaneous repeaters relied solely on bell-type gongs, Breguet was the first to integrate a spring blade into the repeater slide, creating directly vibrating gongs. This innovation produced a clearer, more precise, and more refined tone—the origin of the celebrated Breguet “gong” sound.
In the current 42 mm edition, the gongs are crafted from gold to further enhance acoustic quality. The watch is offered in two versions: white gold with a blue dial, and rose gold with a black dial. It is powered by an advanced hand-wound movement with a 40-hour power reserve.
Price: approximately €227,200.
