Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept: Where Ultra-Thin Meets Ultra-Exclusive
Founded in Switzerland in 1874, Piaget has long stood out in the world of haute horlogerie. As one of the few luxury watchmakers that designs, develops, and manufactures every component of its timepieces entirely in-house, Piaget is synonymous with elegance, innovation, and extraordinary craftsmanship, particularly when it comes to ultra-thin watchmaking.
In 2020, Piaget unveiled the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, a groundbreaking timepiece that went on to win a top distinction at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève. Its defining feature? An astonishing 2mm case thickness — even by Piaget’s own standards — housed in a 41mm case weighing just 14.2 grams.
The result of more than four years of meticulous R&D and two additional years of engineering refinement, this watch introduces a series of bold innovations made necessary by its extreme thinness. To ensure structural integrity, the case is crafted from cobalt alloy — a material far more durable and challenging to machine than gold. This demanding choice enhances resilience while allowing for a case profile previously deemed impossible.
Other key innovations include a reinvented crown that offers greater shock resistance and a patented dial construction that defies convention by placing one of the dials beneath the bridge — a unique Piaget signature.
The manual-wind movement, operating at 28,800 vph, is integrated directly into the case construction, eliminating the traditional separation between movement and case. In total, the watch incorporates 167 components, including 13 diamonds, and offers a 40-hour power reserve. It comes fitted with a deep blue textile strap and cobalt ardillon buckle, maintaining the watch’s ultra-light, ultra-thin philosophy.
Bottom line: Long live the thin difference.
