The Gleaming Rectangle: Patek Philippe 4972G Gondolo in White Gold
Patek Philippe has earned a prestigious place in the world of horology for two main reasons: the in-house production of most of its watch components, and the fact that certain models from the brand have sold for the highest prices of their time at auctions. The current women’s model, the 4972G from the Gondolo collection, stands out primarily for being a “shaped watch” (Patek’s term for any watch that is not round). In this case, it takes on a rectangular shape with a slightly curved Art Deco-style case, crafted in white gold. The dial is made of mother-of-pearl, while the outer bezel sparkles with 130 diamonds – all of which are D to G in color and graded Internally Flawless (IF). Case dimensions: 27.4 x 39.7 mm. The strap, in a deep blue hue, is made of brushed synthetic fabric. Price: approximately $33,000.
